Moving in Chicago?

Posted Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

If you are moving inside the city of Chicago, you should know that there is a right way to do it and a thousand wrong ways to do it. Let’s look at some of my favorite wrong ways.
#1 Guilt you friends into doing a bad job. We’ve all done this and seen how it turns out. You get a few people, most try to escape with awkwardly contrived excuses, people are slightly irritated, and you end up with too few cars to actually get everything anyway (because it’s the city, no one has a truck).
#2 try to move with a taxi. Unless you are willing to first dump 90 percent of everything you own you are going to spend a few hundred bucks running back and forth. And don’t think that they’re going to hang out while you unload either. That meter is going to keep running.
#3 Call up your parents for help. Come on. You’re an adult aren’t you? Are you really going to ask Uncle Stanley to drive your mom and dad across state lines just so they can watch your shirts on the curb, drive around over and over looking for parking, and then awkwardly stand around your new apartment amidst piles of stuff? Show some independence!
What you can and probably should do is call up some quality Chicago Movers for professional assistance. You’ll be glad you did when they get to worry about parking, heavy lifting, and covering any damage that occurs in transit.
